Blue Plaque Commemorates Opera Singer Elsie Griffin - 10th Feb 2012

A blue plaque commemorating the life of the opera singer Elsie Griffin has been unveiled at St Michael on the Mount Primary School in Bristol where Elsie attended primary school as a child.

Elsie Griffin was born in Bristol in 1895 and was an English opera singer best known for her performances as lead soprano for the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company and Savoy Opera during the early 1920s. She went on to become one of the most famous principal sopranos of her time.

Opera Singer Camilla Williams dies at 92 - 1st Feb 2012

Camilla Williams, the first black woman to appear in a leading role with a major US opera company has died in her Bloomington home in Indiana, surrounded by family and friends, aged 92.

Celebrating Claude Debussy’s 150th Anniversary in 2012 - 11th Jan 2012

Some people refer to Claude Debussy as a musical Impressionist, comparing his music with the paintings of Monet and Renoir. Others speak of him as a musical Symbolist, using sounds to stir feelings and sensations in the listener's mind in much the same way as Symbolists poets, such as Baudelaire and Verlaine. Regardless of how one interprets Debussy's music, it undeniably has a subtle yet magical power over the imagination.

Just a little note on the first day of 2012 to thank you for being so very supportive of Opera Bespoke this past year. We have thoroughly enjoyed entertaining you and look forward to bringing you more great vocal performances in the form of singing waiters, opera galas, and other extraordinary shows.

2012 promises to be a great year and we have a lot to thank our predecessors for – the wonderful compositions and musical interpretations – so here is a list of important anniversaries to celebrate in 2012 and we hope to honour their memories:

Our Singing Waiters step back into Tudor times - 30th Dec 2011

December has almost come to an end and it has been a very busy month for Opera Bespoke. Our singing waiters have been performing throughout the UK at Christmas parties, corporate events and weddings. Luckily the weather has been very mild this year and this has made travelling around the country so much easier than last year!

December is always a very busy and enjoyable month for us and we have been entertaining guests all around the UK this year. Our singing waiters have been very much in demand at Christmas parties and our performances have brought each event to life, leaving guests with a lasting memory and a truly unique and fun experience. It’s not every day that you have the opportunity to listen to the country’s top opera singers singing live, close up, especially for you.
